Pole Fishing

A Moment in Time

This figure was inspired by all the wonderful memories as a kid
going fishing.  Fishing in White Mountains provided hours of fun and adventures.  We only had to grab our fish pole and walk out the back door. Often my sisters and I would pack a lunch; dig worms for bait; and take off to climb Mt. Adams and fish Cold Brook on the way down. Or during the summer, we would hike down the path from the Mt. Crescent House to our farm in the valley. This hike often included fishing the pools of Carlton Brook.

One summer we decided to help restock Moose River by catching small trout
in our hands, carry them down the trail in paper cups and tossing them in the
river.

The nice thing about not having expensive gear was how easily we could replace a broken pole.  Just cut another green stick the right size, tie our line and hook (most often a safety pin) on the end and we were ready to catch some more fish!

Our figure sits on a tree stump wearing a handmade straw hat with a canvas bag for the catch and bandanna. He or she is holding their fishing pole complete with
bobber and a fish on the line.
