A Moment in Time
I never really knew Grammie Shorey as she died when I was very young. However, we have many photographs and journals that bring her to life and you get to know the person.
One of my favorite photographs (circa 1920) is of her fly fishing on the Moose River which runs through Randolph and Gorham. Grammie Shorey is standing on a flat rock with fly rod in hand, trying her luck in a quiet pool. She is shaded from the sun with a broad-brim hat dressed in a long dark skirt and light colored blouse. Her fishing creel is slung over her shoulder.
When I discovered this photo, I couldn’t resist creating a figure in her image. The “fly rod” is made from the stem of an iris and the flies are hand-made by either me or others. The only thing missing is the catch of the day!
